Expanded Canadian Championship to Feature 14 Clubs
League1 BC Winner Joins Tournament Field
Ottawa, ON – February 28, 2023
The 2023 Canadian Championship will feature 14 clubs, up from 13 in previous years, with the addition of the League1 BC winner. The tournament will kick off on April 18 with the first leg of the preliminary round, and the final will be played on June 21.
The 14 clubs participating in the 2023 Canadian Championship are:
- Vancouver Whitecaps FC (MLS)
- Toronto FC (MLS)
- CF Montreal (MLS)
- FC Edmonton (CPL)
- Valour FC (CPL)
- Forge FC (CPL)
- HFX Wanderers FC (CPL)
- York United FC (CPL)
- Atlético Ottawa (CPL)
- Pacific FC (CPL)
- Cavalry FC (CPL)
- Edmonton Strikers FC (League1 BC)
- FC de Montreal (Première ligue de soccer du Québec)
- Oakville Blue Devils FC (League1 Ontario)
The first leg of the preliminary round will see Edmonton Strikers FC host FC de Montreal, and Oakville Blue Devils FC host the League1 Ontario winner. The second leg of the preliminary round will be played on May 2.
The winners of the preliminary round will advance to the quarter-finals, which will be played on May 9 and 10. The semi-finals will be played on May 16 and 17, and the final will be played on June 21.
The winner of the Canadian Championship will qualify for the 2024 CONCACAF Champions League.
