Air Canada Pilots Prepare for Strike Amid Ongoing Labor Dispute

Conciliation Efforts Ongoing, Strike Vote Closes August 14th

Air Canada and Air Line Pilots Association Worked with Private Mediator

Air Canada and the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), which represents Air Canada pilots, are in conciliation in an ongoing labor dispute. The two sides worked with a private mediator during the first half of this year and are now in conciliation, a process facilitated by the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB).

The pilots are currently in the process of a strike vote, which closes on August 14th. If the pilots vote in favor of a strike mandate, the union representing them will request help from a federal conciliator to assist in stalled contract negotiations with the airline.

The strike vote comes after months of negotiations between Air Canada and ALPA, which represents more than 4,000 pilots at the airline. The two sides have been unable to reach an agreement on a new contract, with the main sticking points being wages, benefits, and working conditions.

A strike by Air Canada pilots would be a major disruption to the airline's operations and could have a significant impact on travelers. Air Canada is one of Canada's largest airlines, and a strike by its pilots would likely lead to flight cancellations and delays.
