Le Pen's National Rally Surges in French Legislative Elections
Marine Le Pen's Sister Loses Seat
Macron's Party Projected to Remain Second Largest
Paris, July 8, 2024 (WEB) - Left-wing parties made unexpected gains in nationwide legislative elections in France on Sunday, while the Marine Le Pen-led National Rally party secured a significant victory in the first round of voting.
Marie-Caroline Le Pen, sister of National Rally leader Marine Le Pen, lost her race for a seat in the legislature for the Sarthe department in western France.
President Emmanuel Macron's party, Ensemble, is projected to remain the second largest block in the National Assembly with an estimated 150-170 seats. The party currently holds 88 seats, but recent polls suggest it could emerge as the largest party after this election.
