Defending champions Argentina opened their Copa América title defense with a comfortable 2-0 win over Canada at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Thursday. Goals from Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi secured the victory for the Albiceleste, who are looking to retain the trophy they won in 2021.
Argentina began the match brightly, with Messi pulling the strings in midfield. The Manchester City forward latched onto a through ball from Messi and calmly slotted it past Canadian goalkeeper Milan Borjan.
