Juneteenth 2024 Celebrated

Juneteenth 2024 Marks a Day of Jubilee

Three Years After Federal Recognition, June Nineteenth Takes on New Meaning

Juneteenth, short for June Nineteenth, commemorates the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation, effectively ending slavery in the United States. The holiday, also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, is celebrated on June 19th and has been a federal holiday since 2021.

In 2024, Juneteenth will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 19th. This year's celebration will mark three years since the holiday became a federal holiday, and it is expected to be a particularly significant occasion.

Juneteenth is a day to reflect on the history of slavery in the United States and to celebrate the freedom and progress that has been made since the end of slavery. It is also a day to recommit ourselves to the fight for racial justice and equality.
