Atalanta Stun Liverpool With 3-0 Win at Anfield
Humiliation for Reds as De Roon, Castagne and Zapata Score
Jurgen Klopp's Reds suffered a humiliating defeat in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final against Atalanta.
The Serie A side, who are without a win in the league in over a month, put in a stunning performance at Anfield to leave Liverpool with a mountain to climb in the second leg. Marten de Roon opened the scoring for Atalanta in the 17th minute, with Timothy Castagne doubling the lead just before the half-hour mark. Duvan Zapata put the icing on the cake with a stunning goal in the 85th minute.
Liverpool were poor throughout the match and were unable to create many chances against a well-organized Atalanta defense. Jurgen Klopp's side will need to improve significantly in the second leg if they are to have any chance of reaching the semi-finals.
The defeat is a major setback for Liverpool, who had been in impressive form in recent weeks. It also puts pressure on Klopp, who has come under fire for his team's inconsistent performances this season.
